How To Fold Paper Boxes With A Fully Automatic Paper Box Forming Machine

Sep 23, 2025|

Automatic carton molding machine adopts automatic mechanical structure and control system to form carton. This process can be divided into four core stages: feeding, shaping, folding and back sealing. The specific steps are as follows:
1.Feed phase: Precise Positioning and delivery.
Cardboard Placement
Precut cardboard (such as airplane boxes, lids, etc.) is placed in a designated position by hand or by automatic chute. chute width is adjustable to accommodate different cardboard sizes.
Suction Cup Pickup
Power suction cups or mechanical grippers adopts vacuum suction technology, can accurately pick up the cardboard, to avoid surface damage. For example, one model uses a servo motor to drive suction cups with a positioning error ≤ 0.1mm.
Transfer to the Forming Station
A synchronous wheel and belt system transports cardboard to stamping area, ensuring stable transportation. Some models also have visual positioning systems that further modify the angle of the cardboard.

2.Forming Stage: stamping and die design
Die stamping
lift cylinder pushes the die down, and under pressure, the cardboard folds into a basic shape along pre-indented lines. For example, the lid and the carton cover need to be pressed up and down to form the body and lid. Cylinder Control
The lift cylinder's stroke and pressure can be adjusted to fit the thickness of the cardboard. A model uses proportional pressure control to ensure the cardboard is not damaged during molding.
Dimensional Accuracy
The die is processed by high-precision CNC technology to locate the guide rails and ensure that the tolerance of the finished carton is within ±0.5mm, satisfying the requirement of automatic packing.

III. Folding Stage: Three-Dimensional Structure Construction
Operation of the pre-folding mechanism
After pushing the carton to the folding table, the pre-folding blades are prefolded along the design path to form an initial three-dimensional structure.
Latching Arm Coordination
The locking arms mechanically lock the pre-folded sides together to complete the box seal. One model, for example, has a a double latching arm design that ensures clear creases and stable box body.
Multiple Specifications
Different carton structures (such as hooks and tongues) can be created by changing the die and adjusting the folding parameters. An example of die design showed that the efficiency of production decreases by only 15% and the product qualification rate remained above 98%. Bottom Sealing Stage: Bottom Closure and output
Bottom Folding and seal
The machine folds and glues the bottom of the carton using a robotic arm or hot melt adhesive system. For example, one fully automatic cartoning machine has a tongue lock design that does not require tape to seal the back.
Output of manufactured goods
Bottom sealed cardboard boxes are sent downstream on conveyor belts to packaging line or directly stacked for storage. Some models also come with automatic counting, which allows for batch output based on a set quantity.
